Pretty Patterns

I spotted this fashion editorial with Dakota Fanning, yes that Dakota Fanning awhile ago and it made my jaw drop.

Not only was I amazed at how grown up she is now, but I was loving the beautiful pattern combinations in her looks. Being a pattern-phobe myself, I doubt I could ever be so brave with my fashion. My housewares, on the other hand, are a completely different story.

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick walking through the Botanical Gardens

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick walking through the Botanical Gardens in Sydney, Australia

Despite OK! magazine claiming the exact opposite, Britney Spears supposedly proposed to her boyfriend Jason Trawick, and was rejected. Cue meltdown number two in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . From Sydney's Daily Telegraph:\

The boyfriend of pop princess Britney Spears has knocked back a marriage proposal from the world-famous singer she made on her tour here.

Just as it worked its magic on megastars Elton John and Michael Jackson, Sydney apparently brought Spears to her knees on Friday when she is said to have proposed marriage to her manager-boyfriend of some three years, Jason Trawick.

Perhaps feeling emotionally open after a difficult Australian tour, the serial bride with two failed marriages at age 27 is said to have been devastated by the rejection.

The knockback may have caused ripples - on Friday night, for what is said to be the first time in the month-long tour, she gave an impromptu address to her audience, with one tour source saying she introduced a song on these lines: "Have you ever really loved somebody? Have you ever really been hurt by somebody?"

This guy Jason is an idiot. If he just said "yes," when he divorced Britney, he would have been set for life -- a life filled with strippers, gambling, and cheesecake (click here to read more about Kevin Federline). Sure, marrying a pop star just for her money can rob a man of all dignity, but who needs something as stupid as dignity when you can spend all day in your underwear ordering the help around. "Jeeves! Refill my sippy cup with liquor now or you're fired!"

Lindsay Lohan’s Boops Are Getting Huge

Here’s Lindsay Lohan on the set of Ugly Betty. It looks like Lindsay is packing on some poundage and in all the right places, because as you can see her breasts are getting huge. Anyway, I’m lovin’ the new lesbian Lindsay. Girl doesn’t wear a bra. And I’m definitely all for that.

Lady GaGa's Always Been a Freak!

In Celebs by Meieli Sawyer Detoni

Lady GaGa doesn't just dress up and act out to get attention, she says: she's just always been freaky. Miss Sometimes No-Pants went on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about her getups and fans, attempting to clear up some assumptions a lot of us have had about the bold, trendy, and "creative" singer.

Admitting that she had wanted to be like Boy George in high school, Lady Gaga said that it's all about the fans--and she's not faking.

"I didn't fit in in high school, and I felt like a freak. So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with, and they don't feel alone," she said.

"I want my fans to know that it's OK," she continued. "Sometimes in life you don't always feel like a winner, but that doesn't mean you're not a winner."

It's not just the fans that get Lady GaGa going, but her own family. She said that she wrote Speechless for her dad to implore him to get surgery (it worked), and now he's "doing better."

"I was on the road, and I was having a lot of trouble missing my parents and wanting to be with my dad," she said.

At least Lady GaGa's telling it like it is! Do you believe that she loves her "Little Monster" (fans) this much, or is it a marketing trick to get their money? I still can't believe how plain-jane she was just a few years back, but it's not wrong to let that freak flag fly!

Megan Birthday Surprise for her boyfriend

MEGAN Fox is one generous gal!

The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen star has revealed how she bought her on-off beau Brian Austin Green a red 1966 Mustang Fastback that she found on the internet.

“We were going through cars on eBay and I found one in really good condition that was beautiful and for a good price,” Fox told talk show host Jay Leno.

“I used to steal my Mom’s car all the time when I was like 14 and 15 right before I got my license.

“She used to drive a teal Kia and I would steal it and sneak over to my boyfriend’s house. She didn’t let me get my license until I was almost 18 because she thought I would never come back once I had it.

“I was grounded constantly. She would put me in my room and then I would climb out the second-story window.”

Fox, 23, recently said that being famous is like being a “sacrificial lamb”.

“Being a celebrity is like being a sacrificial lamb,” she said. “At some point, no matter how high the pedestal that they [critics and audiences] put you on, they’re going to tear you down.

“And I created a character as an offering for the sacrifice. I’m not willing to give my true self up.

“The reality is, I’m hidden amongst all the insanity. Nobody can find me.”

Lady Gaga just need to wear her pants

Lady Gaga'a pants trick seems to be working By Tony Parsons 28/11/2009

Raised eyebrows at the idea of Lady Gaga entertaining Her Majesty The Queen at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. But a lot of rubbish is written about Lady Gaga.

She doesn’t wear outrageous clothes. She just wears her pants. That’s it.

Singing pleasant pop-dance music while wearing your pants isn’t much of a foundation for a career. But it seems to be working for Lady Gaga.

"Speechless" Performance by Lady Gaga

The last time Lady GaGa appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, her career was just starting to take off with the massive success of her first single Just Dance and the then newly release Poker Face. Now, a year later, GaGa’s a certified pop megastar with numerous number one singles under her belt and her sophomore album, The Fame Monster, in stores.

Lady GaGa returned to The Ellen DeGeneres show and performed the first single Bad Romance and the moving album track Speechless.

During her brief interview, Ellen praised her for actually singing live. A gracious GaGa said she’s surprised when people are amazed that she sings live. “Aren’t we supposed to sing? It’s part of the gig isn’t it,” she joked.

I am very unpredictable - said Beyonce

“I am very unpredictable,” Beyonce said on last night’s concert special about her, and, uh, that is just not true. She is a lot of things — talented, beloved, a non-stop hit-maker — but she’s also one of our most reliable celebrities. We count on her to be beautiful, to make top-40 jams we’ll shout along to in the car, to be essentially scandal-free. “Beyonce: I Am…Yours” was one giant (fun!) infomercial for her brand of lovely diligence, but its title, like its star’s declarations about herself, wasn’t quite accurate: Are there performers less “ours” than Beyonce? I can’t think of one.

Look, this special was totally enjoyable, and the concert footage demonstrated for the jillionth time that Beyonce is one hell of a performer — she can command an entire stadium’s attention with the arch of an eyebrow. (Being in a leotard helps.) She has an awesome all-female band, and everyone in it respects and admires her. Beyonce is a very hard worker, and when we’re extremely lucky, we get to see her interact with her husband for a second or two.

But she’s also elusive, and even telling her own origin story glosses over details that everyone in the audience already knows. If you’re going to bring up the old days of Destiny’s Child, do you want to utter the words “Michelle” or “Kelly”? If you show footage from the then-tween group’s debut on Star Search, might you mention that yes, there were six people in the group at the time? No on all counts. She says that she wrote “Crazy in Love” when she was falling for Jay-Z, whose name she doesn’t say (actin’ kinda shady?), but she doesn’t mention anything beyond that. It’s fine — that’s her right, certainly, to try to retain a shred of privacy — but this hardly makes her ours.

And that’s how I, at least, want it: Beyonce’s best anthems have always been about selfhood, independence, confidence, and ladypower. I just wish this special had the balls to call itself “I Am…Mine” and admit that among the many things we admire about Beyonce is that she’s not ours. In fact the opposite’s true. We’re hers.

Wedding Wednesday {Interview with Alison Events}

Yesterday we hit the 5 month mark before our wedding. Eek! Needless to say the time is flying and my stress levels are slowly increasing.

That is why I was so excited to discover that Alison Hotchkiss, famed destination wedding planner and owner of Alison Events, had put out a book, Destination Wedding Planner so last week I scooped up my copy.  Even as a DIY queen, having a little backup can be very reassuring.

Even more exciting, when I contacted Alison to say how helpful I thought her book was, she generously agreed to an interview! If you're getting married or interested in wedding planning read on for some great advice from this amazing lady.

Thanks Alison!

You've developed a wonderful and highly regarded wedding design business. How did you get started and to what do you attribute your success?

I started doing events right out of collage although I've been planning parties and gatherings since I was about 8 years old. Out of college I worked for an event planning company and I was eager to learn all the aspects of the business. I learned invaluable tricks of the trade like being super organized how to source vendors from all over, how to be patient and not to take anything personally.

When I moved to San Francisco to work for an event designer, caterer and florist and I fell in love with the creative and emotional side of the wedding industry. I was soon starting to assist as the day-of wedding planner for friends and colleagues and had so much work that Alison Events was born. I worked the first couple years out of my tiny studio and took every job that came my way. Two years later I hired my 1st employee and 6 years later here I am. I have 4 full and part time staff, over 40,000 images of venues I've been to and weddings I've done.

I’d like to say my success has come because of my passion to be creative and open minded and real with my clients. The weddings we as a team plan are about the couple-we just help the couple figure out what makes them unique then hire the right vendors that fit their style, personality and budget.

What is the best DIY detail, and conversely, the biggest indulgence you've seen at a wedding?

One of the coolest DYI ideas I am proud of was executed at a wedding we did in Utah this past year.  The client was really into skiing and had traveled together and had tons of photos of childhood trips too.  So we used old wooden skis as their guest book and then hung them up on the wall surrounded by all the ski photos in old wooden frames. You have not seen this image yet because its going to be in Martha Stewart Weddings this winter. Look out for this issue in December as well as on our web-site once it hits stands. Amazing photos.

The biggest indulgence was probably the “beetles go to India” themed wedding my team did two years ago.  We created a weekend long event filled with all things beetles and Indian inspired. For example, we had gorgeous bowl of bangles out for the guest to adorn themselves before they hit the dance floor. Everything from the flowers to the food to the colors of this wedding tied into the theme beautifully. It was one heck of a party.

Where do you go for inspiration and to keep your ideas fresh?

I love photography, traveling, design and dining out. I rarely get inspired by the wedding industry actually.  My friends are all creative people so I often am inspired by them. They are photographers who travel the world, designers, architects, writers, painters, teachers. I also get inspiration from books and magazines. I love Elle Decor, Dwell, Vogue, Travel and Leisure, Sunset, Food and Wine and Real Simple. I pull from all sources in addition to reading and searching the internet. I also love to cruise thought vintage stores and flea markets, always inspirational things there as well as farmers markets.

As brides have access to online resources and do more and more of the planning themselves, what is the nugget of advice or insider info you'd give to a destination bride?

For sure read my book (LOL) as well as buy wedding magazine that feature your destination and go on line and research your destination. Perhaps someone else got married there and made a whole web-site about the site and then you have all the info you could ever need?

When I am traveling to a new place I use social media ( Twitter or Facebook) to ask if anyone has been there and what the best things are to do and see. I also will check Travel and Leisure's web-site for back log articles as well as the New York Times travel section which has covered tons of places. Then I look on blogs and follow a ton of people on Twitter who specialize in traveling.  Photographers are a great source for info too.

Especially when they're this good. Did you spot the shoes?? Or the multi-colored bridesmaid dresses? Details of this gorgeous wedding are here.

Be sure to check back a bit later for my interview with Alison Hotchkiss of Alison Events.

Rainy Day Wear

I started building my rainy day wardrobe when I got my Hunter wellies. I'd love to top things off and head out into the wilderness in any of Mike & Chris' cozy pieces.

I wouldn't just be ready to go out in the rain, I'd be in the mood to sing in it.

Delicious Dining

I'm headed to the future in-laws for Thanksgiving so on the one hand have no stress of menu planning or decorating. On the other hand, I don't have the stress of menu planning or decorating!

While I don't consider myself a tabletop guru (I leave that to the experts), I was really drawn to these simple dining spaces from Commune. Couldn't you just imagine an intimate yet elegant Thanksgiving with only your nearest and dearest around you?

If I were to plan my own table I'd fill it with simple, seasonal items, saturated colors and natural element for a warm, inviting and slightly informal style.

I have a feeling that once we're happily wed, my turn will come soon enough. I'll just bank this inspiration until then.
